John David Flak is a photographer, stage manager, and arts administrator who has worked with famous photographers such as David Plowden and R. Clarke-Davis at CITY 2000 and actors such as Gary Sinise and John Mahoney at Steppenwolf Theatre. From Terre Haute, Indiana, John has photographed his way across the Midwest, Death Valley, and parts of the Hudson River Valley in Woodstock, New York. Since 1997, John has photographed theatre productions for Philadelphia Theatre Workshop, Loyola University, Northwestern University, Goodman Theatre, Redmoon Theater, Steppenwolf Theatre, Light Opera Works, Strawdog Theatre Company, Aboutface Theatre Company, Lookingglass Theatre, and American Theatre Company. He has shown his work in exhibitions at the Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago Historical Society, and the James M. Hunt Gallery. His work has been published in Philadelphia Weekly, the Chicago Tribune Magazine, CS, Entertainment Design, the Chicago Reader as well as many other Chicago newspapers. Currently, he lives in the Art Museum neighborhood of Philadelphia with his wife and his collection of antique cameras. On sunny days, he can be found down along Boathouse Row or in Fairmount Park shooting with his Holga, a plastic toy camera wrapped in rubber bands and electrical tape.
